Few had much disposable income for anything beyond their horses. So they focused their leisure time on riding the backwoods and ranches.Triple B Riding Club formed that year with 10 or 12 families. Fifty years later, the equestrian club, has about 130 regular members from Brandon, Riverview, Lithia, Seffner and elsewhere, and hosts two events a month -- one a day ride and the other a weekend camp out and trail ride.The group merged from every part of the region and each member has a particular story.Brenda Kemp's dad was a jockey in his younger days and regaled her with stories about horses, but never would allow her to own one. So when she was 48 she bought herself a steed -- a quarter horse named Wildfire."She knew I was so stupid about horses, that she wouldn't take me out of the yard," Kemp said Saturday with a laugh. "So I took lessons..." and eventually hooked up with Triple B, a group of people "who like to ride their horses."Penny Pak of Brandon, unloading her medicine hat paint, Muvabo, at a trail off Old Welcome Road south of Plant City, talked about joining the club two years ago. Not only is it a built-in group of riding buddies, she said, but also a giving organization that reaches out to the community.When she and some of her friends worked as volunteers for Traverse, an organization that conducts horse therapy with troubled young people, Triple B stepped up to provide Christmas for the kids.Club members pride themselves on giving back to the community -- in the form of volunteer hours and monetary donations. Like they did for Traverse, Triple B members do charitable work yearly, including donating money last year to help complete the fencing at RVR Horse Rescue in Riverview. They also conduct food drives with Metropolitan Ministries and do volunteer work on the properties where they ride.The group travels around Central Florida to ride, mostly to state parks or to property owned by the Southwest Florida Water Management District."Most of our members are in their 30s or older. Some迷你倉旺角are families and some are individual riders," said club Vice President Sue Vaisey. Most find out about the club these days through Horse and Pony magazine, owned by club member Miriam Lauer, or the group's Facebook page."Horse people are a breed apart when it comes to life and our horses," said four-term club President Gene Naasko, of Winter Haven.Take Claire Boyle, 83, of Plant City. She still rides and has a long history with Triple B. Boyle first joined the club in the 1970s, then left to live in North Carolina. "Last year, I bid farewell to North Carolina, moved back to Florida and bought a quarter horse and a pre-dented pickup truck, then rejoined the club."Lynn Goldie never had ridden a horse when she was recruited to volunteer with Traverse. She took riding lessons and worked as a volunteer with that group for 15 years. Then she found Triple B, which she says gave her a new outlet for her horse passion.And Cathy Tucker of Thonotosassa learned the therapeutic effects of horseback riding after getting out of the Army and buying herself a horse. "I have a very stressful job (as an IT security manager) and horseback riding with the club is a great stress reliever," she said.At least a few times a year, the club rides in parades throughout the Central Florida area. Members also go several times a year to Doe Lake Recreational Area in Ocala National Forest for camping and riding, Vaisey said. "We have put in water throughout the camping area so people can water their horses, polished the floors in the dining hall ... and have done other projects there."On most days, though, like on Saturday when the group visited Hillsborough County's Alafia River Corridor Nature Preserve, it's all about the love of horses and riding. And, despite city golf operations losing more than $1 million in the last three years, many golfers don't want to see it close.The golf course has served as a place where many former golfers have been memorialized with drinking fountains and trees -- and some who have even had their ashes spread on the course."Many of us spent more time down there than we did at home, especially in the summer time," Jim Hulsizer, a local golf historian, said.The National Trail Parks and Recreation District board will vote Monday to close the course to erase an approximately $356,000 shortfall this year. The board will meet at 5 p.m. at the NTPRD administration building, 1301 Mitchell Blvd."We're definitely disappointed to have to see it close, if that's the position that that board follows through with," said city commissioner Kevin O'Neill, the liaison to NTPRD. "Until they vote on it, it's never done until it's done."National Trail's golf operations have lost approximately $1.08 million over the last three years, including about $493,000 last year.The closing of the Snyder Park golf course will save the financially-strapped district an estimated $357,500."We know that something has to be done to take care of those expenses," O'Neill said. "It's budgetary. We would love to have three golf courses, but it's just not at the cards right at this minute."The course was established in 1920 and it opened on July 4, 1921. It became an 18-hole course in 1922.Hulsizer used park district records to determine that 1.61 million rounds have been played at Snyder Park.Hulsizer, 87, worked as a caddy at the course beginning in 1940, where he later played his first round of golf. He also raked sand traps and later watered the course at night, making 35 cents an hour, but "you got to play golf for free.""When a golfer gets dedicated, he'll do just about anything to play golf," Hulsizer said.He said about 70 memorials are on the course -- including many which were dedicated to local golfers who served in the military, such as the Dee Meiser Memorial Fountain dedicated in 1946."It's a real memorial ground," Hulsizer said.The National Trail board said at the work session it will have a plan in place for the memorials if the course were to close.Hulsizer said former golfers have had their ashes spread on both tee boxes and the greens at the course."It's been going on for a long time," Hulsizer said.NTPRD golf professional Tim Grieser said he's never authorized anyone to spread their ashes at the course, but if it happens, word eventually gets back to the pro shop."For a lot of people older than I am, the golf course is a part of their family," Grieser said. "You've got those die-hard Snyder Park (golfers) that live and breathe that golf course. It's going to be sad for them. It's sad for me."The reality is 36 holes in one location will be easier to manage and maintain, O'Neill said."Maybe we'll be able to put some money into those courses and bring them back to where they were 15 years ago," O'Neill said.O'Neill said he did not attend the work session because he wanted the board to make the decision without a city commissioner looking over their shoulder."We're going to respect that decision," O'Neill said. "It's a shame it has to be Snyder Park."Grieser, who began working on the grounds crew in 1997 and was later hired as the head golf pro at Snyder Park Golf Course in 2002, said he's received messages from golfers all over the country about the possibility of the course closing."It's going to be very difficult for a lot of people, and not just people locally. It'存倉 going to be sad to see a place with such tradition possibly no longer available," Grieser said.Grieser said people get emotional when talking about Snyder Park."I've seen grown men almost in tears when they talk about their old memories," Grieser said.Some NTPRD board members said they would like to see the course stay open for a few months this summer before the course is closed forever. Director Leann Castillo is unsure if it will be possible to keep the course open for a few months or even a few weeks because of finances."We're looking at what options we may have, but we can't promise anything," Castillo said.The Springfield City Am was scheduled to be at Snyder Park this summer.He said Reid Park will be able to handle all the leagues at Snyder Park, but some tee times may need to be moved up or back a half-hour.The district will also need to figure out where to put the current carts, including privately-owned carts, at Reid Park, Hulsizer said."I just hate to see Snyder Park go, but on the other hand, I can see the problems on the other side, too," said Hulsizer, a former Wittenberg University golf captain.He believes golfers will take advantage of the final months at Snyder Park Golf Course, if it were to stay open into this season.Donna Warfield, a former Women's City Am champion, is disappointed to see Snyder close. She called it a mainstay in the community, especially for who like to walk a smaller course.Warfield's biggest fear is membership will decrease at Reid Park after Snyder Park is closed. She also hopes money can be used to modernize the facilities."People need a nice place to have a luncheon," Warfield said. "You still have old this and old that and you want people to come out and have outings. They're not going to have outings if they can't have an outing at a nice place."Warfield, who began playing golf 30 years ago, said she plans to keep supporting the city by continuing to play at Reid Park.Several golfers were also critical of the county commission's lack of support for NTPRD. Warfield said many of the golfers who play at the city-owned courses live in the county, not the city."It just doesn't make sense why they're not on the hook for some of this money," Warfield.Local golfer Bill Beach also believes the county should provide more funding to NTPRD."It's disappointing that that wasn't examined further," said Beach, the lone resident to attend the work session last week. "I think that's low-hanging fruit. I think that's money that should be expected."O'Neill said Snyder Park is the tradition of golf in Springfield, but the course has issues such as maintenance and flooding.He believes the course can be converted and made usable for another group, but the district and city commission can't take on another project that's going to be a budgetary item.O'Neill believes it's necessary for the city to provide public golf to its residents."It controls pricing and it protects the person who can only afford X amount of dollars to play," O'Neill said.After playing the course this summer, O'Neill said he was so impressed with the way it came back after it closed in 2012."The conditions were evidence alone that we had no intention of closing Snyder Park," O'Neill said. "We would've never brought it back the way that we did."It's just one of those things where it's a victim," O'Neill said. "The course is a victim, and we're going to pay the price for it. Source: Clovis News Journal, N.self storageM.Jan. 10--Clovis City Commissioner Juan Garza thinks the operator of the city's Colonial Park Golf Course violated terms of his lease by allowing UPS to use the clubhouse as a staging area to deliver packages on golf carts last month.Other city officials, however, said Thursday they aren't so sure.Garza, who lives in Colonial Park, was the first to complain about young men in brown UPS suits zipping around his neighborhood on golf carts loaded down with packages, but with no lights or turn signals."It was around 4:30 or so and it's kind of dark at that time," said Garza. "My concern was safety."Garza said he reported it to City Manager Joe Thomas, who said he'd check it out. Garza said the next day he spotted another golf cart going door-to-door "so I followed him and I finally just asked him what he was doing."Garza said he was told UPS was leasing space in the old pro shop at the golf course clubhouse. He said he called Thomas again. Thomas said he dispatched Parks and Recreation Director Bill Bizzell and also contacted Police Chief Steve Sanders to find out what was going on.Thomas said he had no clue what was happening and, "We were not notified in advance," by anyone at the golf course. Thomas said it was later learned UPS had arranged to pay the golf course a small amount to store packages at the clubhouse and delivering the packages using carts supplied by UPS.Sanders said his officers discovered UPS was using three of its own golf carts to make deliveries. Capacity growth outpaces rise in passenger trafficSingaporeBUDGET carrier Tigerair Singapore has reported a 10.倉2 percentage point year-on-year slide in passenger load factor to 78.3 per cent for December as capacity growth outpaced passenger traffic rise.Passenger traffic for Tiger Airways' most established carrier - as measured in revenue passenger-kilometres - increased 13.1 per cent while capacity rose 27.9 per cent. Meanwhile, the number of passengers carried by the airline was 13.3 per cent higher at 494,000.Its Indonesia-based associate, Tigerair Mandala, reported a 197.8 per cent surge in passenger traffic while capacity growth was nearly as high, 176.1 per cent. This helped passenger load factor to increase 5.2 points to 71.6 per cent. The number of passengers carried increased 153.5 per cent to 180,000, in line with the expansion of its network.Its other associate, Tigerair Philippines, registered a 7.8 per cent year-on-year increase in passenger traffic while capacity was scaled24小時迷你倉back by 7.7 per cent. This helped load factor shoot up 11.5 points to 80 per cent. The number of passengers carried was up 11.2 per cent at 129,000.Earlier this week, the group said that it was divesting itself of its 40 per cent stake in Tigerair Philippines - which has been unprofitable since Tiger acquired the stake for US$2.5 million in 2012 - for US$7 million to Cebu Pacific. Cebu Pacific is also acquiring the remaining 60 per cent in Tigerair Philippines from other investors for around US$8 million.However, as part of the deal, Tiger has entered into a strategic alliance with the Philippines' biggest budget carrier, which includes an interline agreement.The group said that the estimated net loss from the divestment is around $13.5 million, assuming that the proposed sale had been completed on Sept 30, 2013.
