Source: Bangkok Post, ThailandDec.迷你倉西貢 23--The third-generation (3G) wireless broadband market will turn out to be a violent battlefield for mobile operators next year, potentially leading to a sharp drop in service charges.The three 3G operators announced they had finished the nationwide roll-out of their 3G networks this year, two years ahead of the national telecom regulator's requirements.The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) granted 3G licences to Advanced Info Service Plc (AIS), Total Access Communication Plc (DTAC) and True Move to provide 3G services on the 2100-megahertz spectrum in October last year.The licensees are required to roll out their networks to cover half of the country's population within two years after obtaining the licences, rising to 80% in the fourth year.The three operators rolled out their commercial 3G service in May."Thailand has set a world record in 3G transition, with migration taking even less time than in Japan. Some 30% of the country's existing 90 millio迷你倉將軍澳 2G customers shifted to 3G in only five months," said Jesada Sivaraks, secretary to the NBTC's vice-chairman.AIS chief executive Wichian Mektrakarn said his company's 3G network will cover 97% of the population in 2014.His company now has total 37 million subscribers, 15 million of whom are using 3G.
