Security at the chief executive's district forum was beefed up yesterday after Financial Secretary John Tsang Chun- wah was struck on the forehead by an egg at a similar forum on Saturday.文件倉 Those entering the Tai Kok Tsui community center were searched for items such as eggs and tomatoes. League of Social Democrats' "Long Hair" Leung Kwok-hung, despite still being confined to a wheelchair following a football injury, was monitored by several people dressed in the black attire of security guards. Guards also stopped activist Lui Yuk- lin and took a pineapple and 10 eggs from her. They were returned when she left the forum. Despite the tight security, a plastic tomato was smuggled into the hall where Leung Chun-ying and his officials were protected by rows of plainclothes officers. In the event, the protester with the plastic tomato was stopped before it could be hurled. People Power and Civic Passion members managed to throw hell money and a yellow ball at Leung but the latter was blocked by Yau Tsim Mong District Council chairman Chung Kong- mo. The start of the forum was delayed by the chanting of protesters calling on Leung to step down. A total of 13 People Power, League of存倉Social Democrats and Civic Passion members were expelled. Outside, two layers of barricades were set up in front of the protest areas where hundreds of people gathered. At a previous forum, barricades were pushed over by protesters, causing injuries. About 650 people were gathered inside and outside the hall yesterday. Mong Kok deputy district commander Anna Tsang Yim-sheung said the search of personal belongings was part of the security measures. "Any item that has a certain weight and which can be thrown may cause danger," Tsang said. "It is up to the security guards to define what are dangerous items." She would not comment when asked if the pineapple was considered a dangerous weapon. Tsang stressed that security was arranged by the venue organizer and private security teams without police involvement. Both Leung and Chief Secretary Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor denounced Saturday's egg-throwing incident during which two LSD members and another person were arrested. The egg-thrower was apparently aiming for Leung but instead struck Tsang, who had to be excused for half an hour to clean up. Leung said he had not asked the police for additional security. kelly.ip@singtaonewscorp.com 儲存
