Source: St.self storage Louis Post-DispatchSept. 23--PAGEDALE -- Normandy schools Superintendent Ty McNichols appeared before about 40 people at a forum Monday morning armed with a PowerPoint and his 100 Day Plan to improve his troubled school system. His talk followed about a dozen other presentations, interviews, and panel discussions that the new superintendent had taken part in since Normandy schools resumed class about 40 days ago. Which begged this question: "People ask, 'How can he be at all those things and still be running the district?'" McNichols said.McNichols finds himself in a precarious position of trying to turn around his unaccredited school district, while at the same time, educating the community about Normandy schools in light of the transfer situation. People have a perception of the district that's inaccurate, he said."I am out in the buildings," McNichols said. "But I think I need to be out in the community and in the news because I don't think our story is being told."The Meet the Superintendent event was hosted by Beyond Housing at its the Pagedale Family Support Center. Another is planned 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Indi迷你倉n Trails Library, 8400 Delport Drive, Overland."The reality is, he has to continue to give confidence to people in this community that he's up for the task," said Chris Krehmeyer, chief executive of Beyond Housing. For many in the crowd, it was the first time they'd seen McNichols. The superintendent began leading Normandy schools July 1, having previously worked as an administrator in the Hazelwood district. For about an hour, McNichols told the crowd about his trips inside the district's schools. How he's working to ensure parents concerns are addressed. About the intense focus on literacy, and on STEM education, short for science, technology, engineering and math."He seemed to be really concerned," said Sharon Caldwell of Bel-Nor, who left feeling inspired to help her community's schools, even though she doesn't have children in the district. "I'm going to be pounding the pavement to get people to go to the meetings, get involved. The children here deserve to have good schools."Copyright: ___ (c)2013 the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Visit the St. Louis Post-Dispatch at .stltoday.com Distributed by MCT Information Services文件倉
